About This Course

Attending this course will provide you with a good understanding of two-year-olds in terms of child development, early brain development and patterns of play. This course offers opportunities to challenge and develop your thinking and pedagogy around catering for two-year-olds in your provision.

Learning Outcomes

  • Have realistic expectations of two-year-old development and see them as ‘Terrific Twos’;

  • Have a fuller understanding of two-year-olds’ play and identify, support and extend schematic play;

  • Recognise all behaviour as communication and feel increasingly confident when interpreting children’s behaviour;

  • Know and use effective approaches and strategies which promote positive behaviour based on an informed understanding of young children’s holistic development;

  • Know and use effective approaches and strategies which promote positive behaviour based on an informed understanding of young children’s holistic development;

  • Have reflected on their own practice and identified their strengths and areas for further development in relation to supporting two-year-olds.

Tamsin Grimmer

Tamsin Grimmer is an experienced early years consultant, author and lecturer, teaching on the Primary and Early Years PGCE Programme at Bath Spa University in the United Kingdom. She has a wealth of experience supporting Early Years Teachers and educators. She is passionate about young children's learning and believes that all children deserve educators who are inspiring, dynamic, reflective and loving. She has coined the phrase loving pedagogy and has a keen interest in schematic play, promoting positive behaviour, supporting children's emotional development and inclusion. Tamsin has also written several books aimed at educators.
